Diagnosis

The practitioner will inspect your skin texture and colouring, hair texture, posture and movement and also listen to your voice.

You will be asked to stick out your tongue; its overall colour and the coating will be observed.

A pulse reading on each wrist will be taken.  There are twelve pulses in traditional acupuncture, six on each wrist.

Current symptoms and the medical history will be taken, including details of lifestyle, quality of sleep, phobias and reaction to stress.

Is Acupuncture painful?

Most people find acupuncture deeply relaxing.  Extremely fine stainless steel medicated and disposable needles are inserted, allowing a quick, painless and bloodless procedure.  You may experience a slight tingling sensation over each point of entry or an energy transfer along the Meridian to another part of the body.  The needles may be left in for just a few minutes or up to half an hour, depending on the patient and the condition being treated. After acupuncture, you will feel relaxed and often slightly sleepy. Avoid strenuous activity and, if possible, rest for a while.

Course of Treatment

The total number of treatments required depends upon the patient, the type of treatment and the type of medicine. This will  be discussed with you during your consultation. Generally, you will come weekly to begin with and then, as you improve, less frequently.
